Mustangs to open soccer playoffs at home Wednesday

Smoky Mountain will open the state 2-A soccer playoffs at home Wednesday at 6 p.m. against West Caldwell. The Mustangs (15-7-1) are the second seed from the Western North Carolina Athletic Conference. West (12-8) is the third seed from the Catawba Valley Conference. Wreck sends two people to Asheville

Two people were transported to Mission Hospitals in Asheville following a two-vehicle accident shortly before 11:30 a.m. today on N.C. 281 about a half mile from the intersection with N.C. 107. Pawlowski fired as defensive coordinator

SM cross country teams qualify for state meet

Smoky Mountain’s women’s and men’s cross country teams both qualified for next weekend’s State 2-A Meet in Saturday’s Western Regionals. The women placed third with the men fourth. Mustangs rally to claim top seed in playoffs

Smoky Mountain rallied from a 13-0 halftime deficit to defeat North Henderson 20-13 Friday in the final football game of the regular season at Carr Hooper Stadium/Babe Howell Field. Chili Fest canceled due to lack of interest

The Downtown Sylva Association’s annual Chili Fest was canceled due to lack of interest, according to Sylva’s Main Street/Economic Development Director Paige Roberson.
