Mustangs advance to third round

By Carey Phillips

Smoky Mountain advanced to the third round of the state 2-A basketball playoffs Wednesday with a 95-70 win over Mountain Heritage at the SM gym. Will Carpenter scored 26 points leading four players in double figures. Tanner Cogdill added 17 followed by Mark Thompson with 12 and Nathan Neesam with 11.

The Mustangs (22-4) will travel to East Rutherford for a 7 p.m. game Friday. This will be a rematch of last year’s third round when East handed SM its only loss of the season. The Cavaliers went on to win the state championship.
