Wreck sends two people to hospital; MAMA lands on bridge
Emergency personnel clear the scene of a March 27 wreck (bottom photo) that occurred after a Bryson City man failed to yield to oncoming traffic. A van driven by 20-year old Joshua Price of Bryson City was struck when it attempted to cross U.S. 23/441. Price, who had one passenger, 17-year-old Jacob Price, also of Bryson City, was issued a citation for failure to yield, according to Trooper S.K. Bowers of the N.C. Highway Patrol. Joshual Price was crossing from Macktown Road to Mockingbird Lane when his 1997 Plymouth Voyager van was struck by a 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser driven by Ronald Spradley, 49, of Cleveland, Ga. Spradley, who was travelling north (towards Dillsboro) when he collided with Price in the northbound lane, Bowers said, adding that witnesses said Spradley was going approximately 50 mph in a 55-mph zone. With Spradley were 62-year-old Marie Spradley and 64-year-old Georgette Wiley, both of Cleveland. Wiley was airlifted (top photo) to Asheville’s Mission Hospitals; her condition was not available. Both Prices and Spradleys were taken to Harris Regional Hospital. Traffic was at a standstill for approximately 45 minutes in the northbound lanes, and southbound traffic was stalled while MAMA landed on the Dillsboro bridge. – Herald photos by Nick Breedlove
