Slide blocks Caney Fork Road
Crews were at work Wednesday morning (March 10) to clear a rockslide that blocked Caney Fork Road until N.C. Department of Transportation personnel reopened one lane around 6:30 a.m. According to DOT foreman Darrell Brooks, the slide was called in around 4 a.m. Rocks and debris blocked the right hand lane (heading east away from N.C. 107), extending to the road’s center line, and downed trees blocked the other lane, Brooks said. Once DOT personnel cut the trees, they were able to get one lane of traffic moving, he said. The entire slide, which is just past the Caney Fork Community Center, was expected to be cleared by Wednesday afternoon, Brooks said. – Herald photo by Nick Breedlove
