High wind warning in effect for the mountains today and Friday

By Nick Breedlove

According to regional manager for Duke Energy, Fred Alexander, there is a high wind warning in effect for the mountains today and Friday. Northwest winds increase this morning to 15-20 mph, with gusts of 30-35 mph and afternoon gusts of 40-45 mph.

Winds increase tonight at higher elevations, with 20-25 mph sustained and gusts of 50-55 mph. West to WNW winds continue strong Friday morning, then decrease to 15-20 mph sustained, with gusts of 25-30 mph.

Alexander says fallen trees and power outages are possible. Call 1-800 PowerOff (769 3766) or 800 777 9898 to report outages or downed lines. Assume all downed lines are live and keep pets, children, and others away.
