Mustangs move into first place tie

Jackson Simmons scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half Monday helping Smoky Mountain defeat Brevard 68-65 at the SM gym. The Mustangs moved into a three-way tie for first place with Brevard and Pisgah as the trio are 10-2 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference men’s basketball standings. Will Carpenter added 13 points while Jacob George and Tanner Cogdill both had 11.

SM will travel to Pisgah on Tuesday and finish the regular season Thursday at North Henderson. Pisgah will go to Brevard on Thursday after Brevard and North play on Tuesday.

Brevard won the women’s game 65-51. Molly Nardello scored 17 points for the Lady Mustangs, and Heather Mathis had 12.
