Sylva’s old and new board agree, Dogs OKAY at Bridge Park

By Nick Breedlove

Sylva leaders voted 3-2 last Thursday (Jan. 7) for dogs to continue being allowed in Bridge Park.
The town’s former board voted last August for dogs to be allowed in the park on a 90 day trial basis. Three months later, the town’s new board revisited the decision and came to the same conclusion.
“I think it is very important that there are parks in the town of Sylva that are gated or fenced in so that dogs can’t come in,” board member Chris Matheson said. “But there should also be places for people to take their animals and in my opinion Bridge Park is a nice opportunity for this.”
Board members Stacy Knotts, Sarah Graham and Matheson were in favor of the issue, while Ray Lewis and Danny Allen voted “no.”
