Brown to remain soccer coach

By Carey Phillips

Dolphus Brown will return next year for his 19th season as Smoky Mountain’s men’s soccer coach.
Brown retired as a teacher effective Dec. 1, and he had been undecided about his coaching future until this week.
“I just really needed to pray about it,” Brown said. “I didn’t want to give it up for the wrong reasons, and I didn’t want to keep it for the wrong reasons. I love the players. I think it’s a great group of guys, and I want to continue to enjoy the experience with them.”
Brown has a 264-111-25 career record. The Mustangs were 19-4-1 this past season and won the Appalachian Athletic Conference championship.
“I’m glad he’s coming back,” Athletic Director Jimmy Cleaveland said. “He’s got a good program and does a good job with them. I think it’s best for this school and the kids. I know all the kids are extremely excited that he’s decided to come back and coach our soccer team.”
