Second round game set
Smoky Mountain will play host to Forbush, the state’s top-ranked 2-A soccer team, at 7 p.m. Saturday in the second round of the state playoffs at Carr Hooper Stadium/Babe Howell Field.
The Falcons are ranked number one despite a 15-8 record. All of their losses have been by forfeit due to the use of an ineligible player. Therefore, instead of being the top seed from the Mountain Valley Conference, they are the third seed.
The Mustangs (19-3-1) are ranked sixth in the state and are champions of the Appalachian Athletic Conference. They have won 16 straight games and have not lost in 19 consecutive games.
If SM wins Saturday, the third round would be Wednesday either at Wilkes Central or home against South Iredell.
