WCU music faculty members to perform

Faculty members in Western Carolina University’s  School of Music will present a “Faculty Showcase” at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, in the Coulter Building recital hall.

The program features 15 faculty members and a mix of vocal and instrumental music in different styles and will include:

– The Smoky Mountain Brass Quintet (Brad Ulrich and David Ginn, trumpets; Travis Bennett, horn; Dan Cherry, trombone; Mike Schallock, tuba) performing “Bob is Not My Uncle” by Vince Gassi

– Bob Holquist singing arias from the Mozart operas “The Magic Flute” and “The Marriage of Figaro” with Bradley Martin accompanying on piano

– Shannon Thompson performing work by Michael Lowenstern on her bass clarinet

– Soprano Mary Kay Bauer and alto saxophonist Ian Jeffress performing work by Lori Laitman

– Mario Gaetano performing work by Gitta Steiner and Murray Houllif on the vibraphone

– Bradley Martin and Ulrich performing “Three Episodes” by Joseph Turrin on trumpet and piano

– The Faculty Commercial and Electronic Music Ensemble (Bruce Frazier, synthesizer; Dan Gonko, drums; WCU student Dan Iannucci, bass; Don Miller, saxophone; Steve Wohlrab, electric guitar) performing original funk and jazz music by Bruce Frazier and Don Miller
