Softball wins, baseball loses

Smoky Mountain’s softball team won its Appalachian Athletic Conference opener Tuesday at Tuscola, but the Mustang baseball team lost to the Mountaineers.

Trish Brooks threw a complete game shutout as the Lady Mustangs won 5-0. Katie Jo Freeman hit a home run.

Tuscola won the baseball game 9-2. SM’s Chris Matthews hit a home run.
