Smoky Mountain’s quest for a state men’s basketball championship will continue at 8:30 p.m. Friday when the Mustangs (23-4) face Berry Academy (23-7) of Charlotte in the 2-A Western Regionals at the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center. Mustangs win sectional title

For the first time in school history, Smoky Mountain’s men’s basketball team will play in the Western Regionals. The Mustangs (23-4) breezed past upstart Polk Conty (10-16) 61-40 Friday at the SM gym for the regional championship. Jackson Simmons scored 18 points, and Joe Davis added 10. High wind warning in effect for the mountains today and Friday

According to regional manager for Duke Energy, Fred Alexander, there is a high wind warning in effect for the mountains today and Friday. Mustangs reach sectional final

Smoky Mountain advanced to the men’s 2-A sectional finals Wednesday with a 62-59 victory at Mountain Heritage. The Mustangs (22-4) will play at home Friday in the finals against Newton-Conover or Polk County. Basketball game moved to 5 p.m.

Smoky Mountain’s men’s basketball 2-A sectional semifinal game at Mountain Heritage will be played at 5 p.m. Wednesday. It was originally set for 7 p.m., but was moved up due to the possibility of inclement weather. The winner will be home Friday in tbe sectional finals agianst Polk County or Newton-Conover. Spaghetti dinner for ARF tonight from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. at Balsam Mountain Inn

Mustangs win sectional opener

Smoky Mountain opened the men’s 2-A basketball sectionals at home Monday by crushing Bandys 84-48. Jackson Simmons scored 22 points for the Mustangs (21-4), and Will Carpenter hit five three-pointers on his way to scoring 19. Pisgah tops Mustangs in ACC finals

Smoky Mountain’s men’s basketball team lost to Pisgah 76-63 Friday in the finals of the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament at Pisgah. Mustangs reach finals

For the second straight game, Smoky Mountain’s men’s basketball team averted an upset to advance in the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament. The top-seeded Mustangs (20-3) reached the finals by edging fourth-seeded Tuscola 46-45 at Pisgah. Jackson Simmons scored 12 points.
