Smoky Mountain’s volleyball team surpassed its win total for all of last season with a 28-26, 25-27, 25-16, 25-23 non-conference victory over Swain on Monday at the SM gym. Outbreak at WCU likely includes swine flu

Two killed in plane crash near airport

A Georgia couple is dead following a plane crash just before 2 p.m. near the Jackson County Airport. Emergency personnel responded after a resident of Cottontail Lane reported hearing a plane’s engine rev followed by a boom.
